OVERVIEW

Beyond the money you spend each life, WARDOGS appears to have a longer progression that opens up what you are allowed to buy at all. According to PC Gamer, writing on 11 August 2026 after playing a test build, the main thrust of progression is unlocking more guns and vehicles, and it gets expensive quickly. Steam’s Early Access notice separately states that some content — fighter jets among it — is planned for the 1.0 release rather than the Early Access period.

HISTORY

Two systems are easy to confuse here, and the reporting keeps them apart: the cash you earn and spend within a match, and the unlocks that decide what appears in the buy menu in the first place. PC Gamer described the second as the long game. One thing the official material does state, and we had missed it until 3 September 2026: the Steam Early Access notice lists “Cash & XP-based progression where every action earns rewards” among what players can expect at launch. So there is experience as well as money, and both are said to accrue from any action. What no official source has published, as of 3 September 2026, is an unlock tree, a levelling curve, or whether progression carries across seasons — the same notice describes a stronger seasonal meta game as something planned rather than present.

WHAT IT CHANGES IN PRACTICE

The consequence PC Gamer flagged on 11 August 2026 is a real design tension: because unlocks are expensive and gear is bought with persistent money, some players adopted an overly safe style to protect their balance. That is worth knowing before launch, because a game that pays for teamwork can still reward hoarding. Whether BULKHEAD tunes that during Early Access is exactly the sort of thing an Early Access period exists to settle.

WHAT PLAYERS GET WRONG

Added on 4 September 2026, from a source we had not read: in a question-and-answer post on the game’s store feed dated 18 February 2026, BULKHEAD states that experience is earned across six progression tracks, and gives two of them as examples — Medic and Pilot. That is the only figure published about the shape of progression in this game, and it changes how the rest of this page should be read: progression is not one ladder but six, and the track you advance is decided by what you buy and do rather than by a class you picked. The studio has not published the names of the other four, what advancing a track gives, or whether the tracks interact. The trap is assuming that everything you see in a video will be available to you on day one. Some of it is unlocked later, and some of it — jets, per Steam’s own Early Access notice — is not in the game at Early Access at all. Treat unlock claims you read elsewhere as unverified: nobody has published the tree, ourselves included. Our cash economy page covers the money you spend each life, which is the other half of this.

WHAT CHANGES ON 10 SEP

Early Access makes the game itself citable. We will re-check this entry against the game, confirm or correct what it says, and update the checked date. If anything here turns out to be wrong, this page will say so — and say when we learned it.
