OVERVIEW

WARDOGS does not cap squad size. Asked about it directly in the question-and-answer post published on the game’s store feed on 18 February 2026, the studio answered that squad sizes are unlimited and that no friend is left behind. It also said what squadding up gives you: additional interface, communication tools, and vehicle locking for better coordination. We read the post at the source on 4 September 2026. In a shooter that puts a hundred players in a match across three teams, an uncapped squad is an unusual choice, and the three things it unlocks say a lot about what the studio expects players to do.

HISTORY

Most large-scale shooters cap squads at four to nine, because the cap is what forces a team to spread out. Removing it in a game scored by presence in a single zone is a coherent decision rather than a generous one: the objective already concentrates everybody in the same square, so a cap would mainly stop friends from playing together. The third unlock is the one worth noticing. Vehicle locking means a squad can reserve a vehicle it paid for, which only matters in an economy where vehicles are bought with money that persists between matches — the studio has effectively published a property-protection feature, and that follows from the cash system rather than from squad design.

WHAT IT CHANGES IN PRACTICE

The published material supports one practical reading and we will keep it to that. If you play with a group, everyone can be in the same squad, and the group gets tools the rest of the team does not: a shared view, communication, and the ability to stop a stranger from driving off in a vehicle you bought. Against that, WARDOGS also has proximity voice chat, which means the players near you are audible whether or not they are in your squad — so the squad tools are a layer on top of a game already built for talking to strangers. What has not been published, as of 4 September 2026, is how squads are formed in a match, whether they can be joined mid-game, or what the interface actually shows.

WHAT PLAYERS GET WRONG

The mistake is assuming that unlimited means one big squad is the strong play. Points come from having more players inside the control zone than either rival, and that is a majority rather than a total — a team that puts everyone in one place has nobody anywhere else. The second mistake is expecting squad tools to replace talking: the game’s communication layer is positional voice, and our entry on proximity voice chat covers what is established about it. The third is assuming vehicle locking is a full ownership system. The studio named the feature in three words and published nothing else about it — not who can unlock, not what happens on death, not whether it survives a match.

WHAT CHANGES ON 10 SEP

Early Access makes the game itself citable. We will re-check this entry against the game, confirm or correct what it says, and update the checked date. If anything here turns out to be wrong, this page will say so — and say when we learned it.
